We are delighted to kick-start the New Year with a guest blog from local Twyford resident, Charlie Musson, who moved to the area from London a few years ago.
To Bee or not to Bee?
That is the question anyone should ask themselves if they are considering relocating to a new area. Do you go it alone or seek some help?
We did it on our own.
The dream was a country village location, but close to a town or city, good transport links to Southampton and London, nice local school, bigger house, larger garden – all for about the same price as our previous house in the London suburbs. Nothing too demanding then!
We now live in Twyford, just outside Winchester and remarkably it ticks every one of those boxes. So, the answer is clearly to go it alone?
Honestly, our result was a complete fluke. We looked at about 10 houses in areas including Eastleigh, Chandlers Ford, Bursledon, Hamble and Warsash. Some lovely areas but none of them met all our criteria.
The fact is we had no idea. Not a clue. Neither my wife nor I had ever spent any time in the area, let alone lived here. We were moving because I had a new job in Southampton. We were literally house hunting in the dark.
We ended up in Twyford because we liked the house and could move in quickly because it was a new build. That was something that suited us because we could relocate as I started the new job rather than dealing with a painful commute for a period of time. The rest was all down to luck.
When I look back at how different it could have been there is no doubt in my mind that I should have sought some help from experts. It was difficult doing property viewings from so far away, we knew nothing about the area, it was a risk with one of the most important decisions we’ll ever make.
I came across ScoutBee because I am now a landlord in Southampton. If I’d known about ScoutBee before we relocated, the answer to the question would definitely have been ‘To Bee’.
